For us John's Story began long ago, but the public story commenced in 1994. John his wife and child were living in Hawaii, having moved there because his wife had been admitted into a Doctorate program. They planned to live there until she completed the program. John's Mother, Bijou had visited in February, but John was not there and she was told he was out of the country because of business. This was not unusual, as John was always traveling .
In March we were told that John had disappeared. We were at a loss as to how or why John would simply vanish, and shortly after this his wife said that he had been indicted in Florida. We quickly subscribed to newspaper sites around the country to find out if anything had been reported about the indictment. We found articles in the Gainesville Sun and in the San Francisco Chronicle relating to indictments for in a world wide hashish and marijuana smuggling enterprise. Three individuals from San Francisco were arrested in Florida and had given information that lead to the indictment of Claude Duboc and John Knock as co-conspirators. Claude and John were purported to be in charge of this organization. Shortly after this, Claude was arrested in Hong Kong and agreed to be extradited. His wife Robin hired Robert Shapiro. In short order Shapiro asked F. Lee Bailey to join him. The legal circus began in the Northern District of Florida Federal Court.
